Dr.N.H.Ravindranath is a professor at the Centre for Sustainable Technologies (formerly ASTRA - Application of Science and Technology to Rural Areas) Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and an Associate Faculty Member with the Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

 

Prof. Ravindranath’s work encompasses rural energy systems , community and sustainable development, natural resource monitoring, climate change and related issues. His current research interests include – i) Climate change – mitigation, impacts, vulnerability and adaptation in the land use and forest sectors, Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) & Reducing Deforestation (REDD) in forest sector, ii) Biofuels, and iii) Renewable energy.

 

Besides being a member of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Expert panel on Kyoto Protocol, Prof. Ravindranath is also a UNFCCC Expert on Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory of industrialized countries. He is a member of the Science & Technology Panel of the Global Environment Facility, (World Bank, UNDP, Asian Development Bank and UNEP) with climate change as his key area of focus. He is also a member of the Climate Change Impact & Adaptation Expert Committee that provides feedback to the Climate Change Council chaired by the Prime Minister of India.

 

Prof. Ravindranath has authored eight books on climate change, renewable energy, community forestry and biomass energy besides producing several assessment reports for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
