Monitoring Elephant population in NE & SI
The Govt. of India launched Project Elephant in 1992 with the objective of ensuring the long – term survival of the elephant across various elephant ranges in various states of India. The short term objectives were to link up fragmented portions of elephant habitat by the establishment of corridors, protect existing corridors, improve habitat quality and attend to socio – economic problem of the fringe populations.
In 2007 ANCF was commissioned by Project Elephant to carry out an evaluation of the implementation of the Project in North Eastern and Southern India. ANCF carried out a thorough evaluation, identified bottlenecks, and made recommendations for improving the implementation of the project.
