Synchronised Elephant Census
A synchronized elephant census in all elephant habitats in the country is carried out every five years.The state forest departments conduct these synchronized censuses.The South India synchronized elephant censuses were conducted during 2002, 2005 and 2007 by the Project Elephant, Government of India. ANCF has been assisting the Forest Department in these ventures in various ways. These include validating results obtained from the dung count method with the random block total count method, conducting workshopson elephant census techniques for officers from all the Elephant Ranges of India prior to the actual census and assisting in the raw data analysis.
