Kaniyanpura corridor in Bandipur National Park
The Kaniyanpura corridor, located in Bandipur National Park, Karnataka, connects a population of over 6000 elephants in the Western Ghats with another 2000 elephants in the Eastern Ghats. Our organisation mapped the land use pattern along this corridor and its usage by elephants in collaboration with the Karnataka Forest Department. With funding from the Project Elephant - Government of India, existing uncultivated land was transferred to the National Park and an elephant proof trench was re-aligned along its northern boundary. This increased the corridor’s width from the existing 50 m to about 500 m.
