Elephant Proofing the new campus of IISER at Vithura, Thiruvananthapuram, India
The new campus of the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), in Thiruvananthapuram, is situated alongside Palod reserve forest (RF). Wild elephants had entered the campus, on several occasions, by damaging the barbed wire fence along the periphery. IISER commissioned ANCF to evaluate feasible and cost-effective approaches to minimize the intrusion of elephants and other wildlife into the campus. The foundation swung into action by exploring elephant movement pattern, behaviour and identified ways in which the campus could be protected effectively.
